Je suis allé à Atlantic College en septembre 1980 après avoir passé 5 ans au Lycée Blaise Diagne à Dakar. La sélection à cette époque était faite uniquement sur les résultats scolaires des lycées du Sénégal, base à partir de laquelle un jury du Ministère de l'Education Nationale présidé par le Recteur de l'Université de Dakar, sélectionnait les lauréats et une notification était faite du résultat final et du collège UWC d'affectation. Cette année là , nous avions été 5 à être retenus dont 4 pour Atlantic College au Pays de Galles (Farba Seck avec qui j'étais dans la même classe au Lycée Blaise Diagne, Aïssatou Sy et Seynabou Dia) et 1 pour le Collège Pearson du Canada (Magaye Diop). Il n'y avait pas eu d'entretien ni d'"oral " pour évaluer nos personalités et encore moins notre culture générale ou nos capacités d'adaptation dans un environnement nouveau. Nous savions juste que nous partions pour une école d'excellence et de prestige pour passer à,la fin des 2 années le bac international....

Ce ne sera qu'une fois arrivé sur le campus que nous allons découvrir la philosophie sous-tendant l'idéal des collèges UWC dont l'objectif est de promouvoir la compréhension entre les peuples (en réunissant dans un même environnement des jeunes venus du monde entier à un âge où la perception du monde est encore en devenir) et les idéaux de paix et de service à la communauté. Tout celà bien sûr dans le cadre d'une éducation scolaire de qualité. Découvrant celà et enchanté par cet idéal, j'y ai passé 2 années formidables qui m'ont forgé une maturité et ouvert l'esprit sur un monde beaucoup plus grand que je l'avais imaginé auparavant, et m'offrant ainsi une approche des évènements qui allait bien plus loin que la seule appréhension des choses d'un point de vue uniquement académique.

Au bout des 2 ans, le bac en poche avec plusieurs voyages (le tour de l'Europe du Nord en train pendant 1 mois, un séjour de 10 jours en Union Soviétique) et expériences positives (l'ascencion du Pic Grove d'Arête au Nord du Pays de Galles - je suis probablement le rare sénégalais à avoir jamais grimpé cette petite montagne totalement inconnue mais je n'en suis pas peu fier - , avoir marqué plein de buts victorieux de l'équipe de foot du Collège, et avoir animé de nombreuses soirées du samedi night en DJ de choc - rappelez-vous, nous étions en pleine période du "disco", période qui malheureusement avait hypohtéqué pas mal de carrière scolaire de jeunes au Sénégal.....), j'ai suivi un cycle d'études de hautes études de commerce à Paris (ISC Paris) et plus tard un master en Affaires Publiques à Sciences Po Paris. Voilà en raccourci mon parcours académique.

Sur le plan professionnel, j'ai débuté à 22 ans chez Ernst & Young Sénégal comme auditeur financier et y ai grimpé jusqu'à Associé ou Partner depuis juillet 2001. Bref, j'y ai consacré 22 ans de mon existence d'abord comme auditeur jusqu'en 2005 et depuis en effectuant un virage radical consistant à coordonner les activités de conseil notamment dans le secteur public pour l'Afrique francophone avec des incursions dans les Caraïbes (Haïti), l'Océan Indien (Madagascar ,Comores, Djibouti) ou les pays anglophones (Libéria, Rwanda ?!).

Ayant fortement été marqué par mon experience des collèges UWC, j'anime depuis l'été 1989 avec Farba Seck (Atlantic College même promotion), Moustapha Ndiaye (Armand Hammer 1982-1984), Abdoulaye Thiam (Armand Hammer 1983-1985), Diarétou Madina Gaye (Pearson College 1992-1994, devenue ma femme en avril 1999), David Leye (Atlantic College 1984-1986) l'amicale des Anciens élèves UWC du Sénégal, dont l'objectif est de maintenir la présence sénégalaise dans le mouvement des UWC. Ce que nous faisons avec plaisir et dont la plus grosse satisfaction que nous tirons est la joie de sélectionner de dignes ambassadeurs à chaque fois qu'une bourse nous est offerte par un Collège. Allant de pair avec cette joie est la reconnaissance du travail bien fait par notre Amicale, ce qui a valu l'octroi de bourses pour des destinations improbables tel que l'Inde, Hong Kong, Singapour et le Costa Rica (je vous en toucherai un mot là-dessus prochainement, ne serait-ce que pour vous montrer à quoi la chance peut tenir...mais surout la crédibilité de UWC Sénégal tout au long de ces 20 ans d'existence).

Voilà, je pense vous avoir convaincu de ma marque UWC.... indélébile qui m'a poursuivi jusque dans mon foyer maintenant.... Mais croyez-moi, il est des punitions plus dures dans la vie, et je me réjouis d'avoir un soir de février ou mars 1980 croisé le chemin des UWC quand le surveillant général nous a convoqué à 3 dans son bureau pour nous dire que notre candidature allait être présenté par le lycée pour les Collèges du Monde Uni.

La suite vous la connaissez un peu mieux maintenant et je me garderai de vous raconter les épisodes croustillants qui ont émaillé notre parcours de débutant dans un monde devenu soudain nouveau pour nous et surtout plus grand. Walla ?
